Char Dham Yatra from Delhi: Complete Pilgrimage Guide

Mar 10, 2026By Rohan Mehta

Char Dham Yatra — inn teen shabdon mein ek poora zindagi ka anubhav chhupa hai. Yamunotri ki paak dharaon se shuru hokar, Gangotri ki pavitrata, Kedarnath ki divinity, aur Badrinath ki mahima tak — yeh yatra sirf ek pilgrimage nahi, yeh ek aatma ka safar hai. Aur Manmauji Trip ke saath, yeh safar simple, safe, aur spiritually fulfilling ban jaata hai.

Every year, lakhs of devotees from across India undertake the Char Dham Yatra in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. For Delhi residents, this is the most accessible of all major pilgrimages — and we're here to make every kilometre count.

The Four Sacred Dhams

Yamunotri (3,293 m)

The source of river Yamuna, Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple is accessible by a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti. The sacred hot spring (Surya Kund) and Divya Shila are key highlights. The offerings cooked in the natural hot spring water hold special religious significance.

Gangotri (3,100 m)

The origin of river Ganga, Gangotri is one of the most sacred places in Hinduism. The actual source — Gaumukh glacier — is 19 km further and can be trekked by fit devotees. The 18th-century temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga is breathtakingly serene.

Kedarnath (3,583 m)

One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva — Kedarnath is the emotional heart of the Char Dham. The 16 km trek from Gaurikund (or helicopter from Phata/Guptkashi) leads to this ancient temple that has stood for over 1,000 years. The 2013 floods devastated the area but the temple stood tall — believers see this as a miracle.

Badrinath (3,133 m)

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is the final and most visited of the four dhams. The Badrinath temple, set against the majestic Nilkantha peak, is open for six months a year. The hot kund (Tapt Kund) beside the temple is where devotees bathe before darshan.

Best Time for Char Dham Yatra

The Char Dham temples open every year around late April/early May (on auspicious dates determined by the Hindu calendar) and close in October/November before Diwali. The peak pilgrimage season is May–June and September–October. Manmauji Trip releases advance packages as soon as the opening dates are announced every year.

  • May–June: Crowded but energetic. Long queues but full devotional atmosphere.
  • September–October: Less crowded, cleaner weather post-monsoon, stunning landscapes. Highly recommended.
  • July–August: Monsoon — routes can be disrupted by landslides. Not ideal for the elderly or children.
