Top Destinations in Sri Lanka

Sigiriya — The Lion Rock

Sri Lanka's most iconic landmark — a 5th-century rock fortress rising 200 metres from the jungle floor. King Kashyapa built his palace on this monolithic rock, accessible via spiral staircases carved into the rock face, past ancient frescoes of heavenly maidens (the Sigiriya Damsels), and through lion-paw gates. At the top: a 360° view of the entire island. Utterly magnificent and a genuine wonder of the ancient world.

Kandy — Sacred City

Sri Lanka's last royal capital, set around a beautiful lake in the central highlands. The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) — housing a sacred tooth of the Buddha — is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines in the world. The nightly Kandyan cultural dance performance is spectacular. Kandy's Royal Botanical Gardens are among Asia's finest.

Ella — Hill Country Paradise

A tiny mountain town surrounded by tea estates, waterfalls, and hiking trails — Ella is pure serenity. The Nine Arch Bridge (a stunning colonial-era viaduct through tea hills — especially gorgeous with the morning mist and a train passing over it), Little Adam's Peak hike (easy, 2 hrs), Ella Rock, and the best train journey in the world — Kandy to Ella by train through the tea country. This train ride alone is worth the trip to Sri Lanka.

Galle — Colonial Fort Town

A UNESCO World Heritage Site — Galle Fort was built by the Portuguese and expanded by the Dutch in the 17th century. Rampart walks at sunset with the Indian Ocean on both sides, boutique hotels and cafes in old Dutch townhouses, and a cricket match sometimes happening at the famous Galle International Cricket Stadium inside the fort walls. Deeply charming and very photogenic.

Yala National Park

One of the world's best national parks for leopard sightings — Yala has the highest density of leopards per square kilometre of any protected area on Earth. Also home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. A morning and evening jeep safari in Yala is thrilling beyond words.

The Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka

Yeh ek aisi yatra hai jo lakhs of Indian Hindu pilgrims ke liye deeply meaningful hai — the Ramayana trail in Sri Lanka visits the actual locations mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana:

  • Sita Amman Temple, Nuwara Eliya: Built at the spot believed to be Ashok Vatika where Sita was kept by Ravana. A peaceful and emotionally moving temple.
  • Hakgala Botanical Gardens: Said to be the remains of Ravana's royal garden (Ashok Vatika).
  • Ravana Falls: A 25-metre waterfall near Ella associated with Ravana.
  • Rumassala Hill, Galle: Believed to be the fragment of Gandhamadana mountain that Hanuman dropped while carrying herbs for Lakshmana.
  • Lankaatilaka Temple and Embekka Devalaya: Ancient temples with intricate carvings connected to the Ramayana period.

Manmauji Trip offers a dedicated 7-day Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka package for pilgrims and devotees — combining the spiritual significance with comfortable travel.
